SOME LIKE IT HOT
We often begin a project by considering material processes.  An act of probing inherit structural properties of a given material to amplify latent possibilities by altering its malleable states.   The way of working can take years of research and experimentation that allows us to develop new methodologies toward toward realizing our final designs.  In this particular case, Lauan a very affordable and common material to other plusfarm projects, was reintroduced through our study of boat building (a timeless craft to achieve complex lofted surfaces).  We were also drawn to the concept of "tortured wood" - a term we learned from the builders who heat wood to extremely high temperature to physically alter the wood - it is also known as steam bending.
